For today's devotion I'm going to take a different approach. I'm going to give you a definition of what 'first love is' and 'first works are.' Then we are going to read the Bible verse adding in these definitions to see if it helps us understand what Jesus is saying more to the point. Are you ready? So I want you to remember if you can the very first time you fell in love. Do you remember that feeling? That emotion? That passion? Ok. Now I want you to remember what you did as a result of loving someone with such totality and purity. Can you remember that? Some may not be able to. Some may have never had a first love. To you I say it's possible and I speak that love into your life through Jesus Christ. To those who can... I want you to now remember that trust was a huge part of the love that was expressed. The unbroken trust that is attached with locking into this pure place of love with another person can be described as almost reckless. Here's my point. This my friends is the place that Jesus was speaking from and to. Hear me out. When you love someone, especially your first love, there is a complete unbroken trust that you rely on them for everything. And you can trust everything that they say because the motives and the trust is not only mutual but pure. For some it was your parent child relationship. For others a grandmother, grandfather, auntie or some other family or close friend. But the common denominator is that the love is bonded by trust. So what if the scripture was saying, that Jesus is saying...you abandoned your ability to trust me. And you fell when your faith failed in me. So the remedy is to go back and do your first work...which is trusting me...by exercising the faith you had in me when you first believed. Or I will come quickly and remove your lamp stand. Because without faith its impossible to please God because you must not only know that He is but....understand you must trust Him enough to obey. OBEDIENCE is proof of your love and trust. And the just shall live by trust...which is faith. Today is a great day to rekindle your love for Jesus Christ. I speak to your mind to shake off all distractions and move into your God given Jeremiah 29:11. Do your first works which is trusting in God as a child.
