But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Acts 1:8

For this morning's devotion I want to deal with an age old adage in the church. To be a witness for Jesus. What does this really mean?  I remember when I was first born again we used to meet downstairs in the evangelism department of our church and get paper tracks to help us witness. We divided up into groups and hit the streets and houses passing out these tracks and leaving them on top of car windshields. But is this really what Jesus meant? Lets look into this a bit deeper. Just looking up the definition of ' to be' changed the way I saw Acts 1:8. To be means to exist as. In other words, to live in and under the conditions of. So in other words Jesus said, The Holy Spirit is going to give you the power and ability to live in and under the conditions of which you must then be a witness of. Now remember in a court of law you can only be a witness of first hand experiences. Did you catch that?  So what if Jesus was not speaking to passing out tracks but to our identity? To me this makes sense. He's saying, 'The Holy Spirit is going to come upon you and give you first hand testimony in your life of what it means to live in and under the conditions of the new agreement in your new creation spirit. In other words, the power of the Holy Ghost comes to change your life and when He does you will speak first hand of His power to change us everywhere you go. Identifying with the identifier is a game changer. My friends, before we say... we've got to first be.  That's the only reason we can be a witness. And you might say, well I'm a chef. I'll say,...no, no, no, you are a chef-witness. I'm a post office employee, no, no, you're a post office employee-witness. Your job is your occupation or but your new creation living is your identity. So no matter what place in life you hold you're still a witness. You get it? This is how the gospel is spread. Today is a great day to walk in the power of your new identity in Christ. Pick up God's word, and read it, digest it, so you can become a first hand witness to His promises for you. And then you can easily share as you testify of how Jesus changed your life. Remember the great commission is not just something you say but who you are. Right now I come into agreement with your life and your witness as the power of God partners with you to changes nations.
