THE PULLING DOWN OF IDOLS

 IDOL is defined as..

i·dol
pronounced  /ˈīd(ə)l/

noun
  1. an image or representation of a god used as an object of worship.

a person or thing that is greatly admired, loved, or revered.

In the Bible, an idol is primarily a physical object, like a statue or image made from wood, stone, or metal, to which people give worship or reverence, effectively replacing God. This worship involves bowing down to, serving, or placing excessive devotion in the idol. The concept also extends to modern times, where anything that is given the place of God in a person's heart—such as wealth, celebrities, spouses, possessions, religious beliefs, people, animals, other gods, spiritual beings or entities, a job, or even oneself—can become a spiritual idol, a form of misplaced worship.
